A Weekend (or maybe we should say week) of Celebrations

We had a small family birthday party for Simon yesterday and it was really nice. Simon was in a great mood and soaked up all of the attention. We incorporated a few Korean touches in the food and entertainment arena. We grilled Korean BBQ along with our burgers and also added kimchi and Korean rice cakes to the menu. Simon appears to be the only fan of the rice cakes:) He looooves them. I'm going to have to take more trips to the Oriental Market because when he saw them in the fridge his eyes lit up and he pointed and "eh eh eh eh'd" his way to a rice cake morning snack that day.

We also had Simon participate in a Toljabee (or Tol). This is typically a ritual performed at the child's first birthday in Korea. We don't really have the whole story of Simon's first birthday but it seems that he didn't have one so we gave it a whirl! It was a lot of fun actually and I'm glad we could be there when he picked his items. I accurately predicted that he would pick the rice cake first:) You will see a picture of him below pointing to the rice cake basically the instant I put him on the table. Next he picked the thread. This means he will never go hungry and live a long life! Both great things.

We may have to name an honorary father's day for this family sometime in like February when we're not so busy. We did celebrate Father's Day today a little but between Simon's birthday, birthday party, father's day AND our anniversary tomorrow I feel like father's day will get a little lost in the mix. The 3 of us were all a little exhausted but we rallied and went for a burger at the Lion's Tap for an early dinner before an early bedtime.  Simon put on a happy face and gave out father's day kisses for his main man. His first french fry experience probably didn't hurt either.
